5 things to keep in mind to survive your first day in school

Summer is nearing its end.

No more couch-potato-over-movies the whole day, no more week of hang-out-all-day with friends and no more sleep-eat-sleep regime for you.

But hey! It is school time again and there's gonna be a lot of fun and enjoyable things to do in school once more.

For some, it is a nerve-wracking day, especially for newbies, and for others, it is time to show-off once again. You might feel anxious, excited, scared or maybe just another hey-im-here-again-what's-new day.

To relieve that first-day anxiety and have a confident and good start for the school year, here are five things you need to keep in mind.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIP No. 1: Plan Ahead.

Plan the supplies you will bring and buy them early. Some stores go on sale when school is about to start so make sure to take advantage of this. Buy those that are essential. You can check the school's website if they have the list, or if not, prepare only the basic ones as your teacher might require other things.

Plan the clothes that you will be wearing also. Some schools have uniform policies and dress codes so make sure to check on these so you would not make a bad impression on your first day. However, do not overdress too. Just make it casual, plain and comfortable. The best fashion advise is just to BE YOURSELF. Wear whatever suits your personality and whatever fits you.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIP No. 2: Be prepared.

Prepare yourself for the battle. If you get used to sleeping late at night or waking up late in the morning (or maybe afternoon) during the summer vacation, it is time to change this routine. It is better to train yourself to have enough (at least 8 hours) sleep with proper timing a week before the school starts. This will set your body clock again and be ready for school.

Prepare all the things you will bring to school and the clothes you will wear the night before the first day of school. Go to bed early and set your alarm clock.

Wake up early, eat a good and healthy breakfast and exercise a bit. These will help you boost your energy and give you a working attitude ready for your first day.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL Tip No. 3: Do not be LATE.

This is your first day so do not create a notion of being a LATECOMER. Although this won't hurt your grade but this will give a bad impression.

If you are new to the school or live far from the school, you should know how long it takes from your house to the school depending on the mode of transportation you will be taking. Ask your parents if you will ride a public or school bus, taxi or hitch on your parents' car going to school.

You may want to try going to the school once with the same time as the school time to know how long will it take as traffic is different throughout the day. Or if you are lazy, there are apps you can check for the travel time from your house to school. But to ensure that you won't be late, go to school 15 minutes before your estimated time of departing.

If you are a school bus rider, make sure you know the point and time of pick-up. Be at the pick-up point at least 15 minutes before (Just carry with you a book to read in case you get bored waiting). And if there are other students with you waiting, time to make friends and know more about the school or possible teachers.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIP No. 4. Be positive.

No one wants to hangout with a moper. Create positive vibes and make good friends. Do not give negative comments like "It's boring," "She's not good," or "I hate this subject". If you feel anxious, your teachers and classmates feel anxious too. Compliment and help others. Boost their confidence and uplift their sprit. Do not be sulky and gloomy on your first day.

If you feel bored, crack jokes, talk to your classmates, start an interesting conversation with your teachers or sing. Do crazy stuff but do not be disruptive. This will create an enjoyable environment within the classroom.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIP No. 5: Listen and Participate.

The class will be boring if you are uncooperative. Participate during the activities prepared by your teachers. Listen to school and class rules and subject-specific instructions. Jot down notes or use your school diary for important reminders. Respect your classmates and teachers and all the school staff and administrators. Greet everyone and remember to always….SMILE.

Follow these five tips and you'll never have a tragic and irksome first-day of school.

All the best for you!
